What an exciting Pride it’s shaping up to be. It has just been announced that Conchita Wurst will be headlining the main stage in Trafalgar Square on Saturday. That’s right, the very same Conchita Wurst of recent Eurovision fame who captured the hearts of the LGBT community across the continent. Is if that isn’t enough, there will be lots of other stuff happening including pre-events, dance, theatre, afterparties and even a picnic. To see the full list of events have a look at the London Pride guide . It doesn’t stop here. This year, the pride is celebrating the fact that LGBT communities now have more freedom than ever before to be themselves and fully participate in society, as well as, simultaneously, emphasising the need to extend LGBT rights and inclusion beyond what has already been achieved. This is being supported by those across the capital in a series of selfies with the hashtag #FreedomTo and then a personal message, as shown by one of the barmen from Ku Bar, where we do our Saturday HIV testing shift. There have even been plenty of famous faces telling us what freedom mean to them, like Graham Norton, Ben Cohen and Sir Ian McKellen (See more on the campaign here).
Obviously, with all this pride awesomeness happening we will be taking part in festivities ourselves. We will be marching in the parade (with Positive East) and in Trafalgar Square (with Metro and West London Gay Men’s Project) from 12-4pm on Saturday and then at UK Black Pride Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens on Sunday from 12.30pm. We will have lots of condoms, leaflets, stickers and other goodies, so look out for us! Have a great pride weekend everyone!
